Kuwaiti Organization ‘Rahma International Society’ Distributes Donations to the Needy

PHNOM PENH: Rahma International Society in collaboration with the Reform and Development Society Association, and with the participation of leaders and representatives of the organization, distributed humanitarian donations to 420 Cambodian families in Kilometer 9 district, Phnom Penh, on Friday morning.

The senior minister in charge of special missions and the Chairman of the Phnom Penh Islamic Center, Osman Hassan, was present at the gift distribution and said that the donations were being made to Cambodians without regard to religion.

He said, "I am very thankful for all the donations made in the past, I remember in 1996, 1997, large countries were requesting Prime Minister Hun Sen to reduce the acceptance of donations from the Middle East as well as Islamic countries. The Prime Minister replied that if they did not provide donations to people in need and want him to close the door and not receive aid from Islamic countries, then he will not agree, so he still kept the door open for donations from other Islamic countries…”

Ali IEA Alrashed, the head of the Cambodian office at Rahma International Society, said the organization distributes donations worldwide to 27 countries, including Cambodia.

He said, “Rahma International Society distributes donations worldwide to 27 countries, including Cambodia, and on the 25th and 26th [of February], this is also the 61st National Day of Kuwait. For this occasion, we brought donations to the people of Cambodia, which reflects the sincerity of the Kuwaiti people… and the association will continue to help Cambodia forever."

At the ceremony, 50-year-old Sa Sanas expressed her joy at receiving the donations. "When I received the donation, I was excited and happy to be able to support my poor family. I would especially like to thank all the donors and the government for their help," she said.

Meanwhile, 68-year-old Lah Kary has a physical disability, and said that this gift will help to facilitate his needs. He said, "I am very happy to receive donations from the people of Kuwait who have helped the poor in Cambodia, and which has also helped to alleviate my needs.”

The President of the Youth Gate Organization, Matt Amirosh, affirmed that the distribution of gifts is an annual celebration of the people of Kuwait to the people of other countries and hopes that in the future there will be participation from other Arab countries as well.

Nasr Hasan Khaleel Abu Jwaied, a representative of Rahma International Society in Cambodia, also thanked the donors and the people of Kuwait for their assistance to Cambodia, and thanked the Kuwaiti Embassy in Cambodia as well as the Royal Government for facilitating the association's projects as well.

He said, "On Kuwait’s National Day, I would like to thank all the donors and people of Kuwait who have continued to assist Cambodia in all projects so far, and I would also like to thank the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kuwait, the Kuwait Ambassador to Cambodia, and thank you to the Royal Government for always facilitating all the projects of Rahma International Society in Cambodia.”

Rahma International Society’s donations are distributed as humanitarian gifts to the people of 23 countries, with more than 650,000 people receiving donations on the occasion of the 61st anniversary of Kuwait's Independence, between 25-26 February 2022.
